Get ready for a fish-filled adventure on the mighty Susquehanna! Our 8-hour private trip gives you the best of both worlds – world-class smallmouth bass action followed by some serious catfish hunting. We'll kick things off at 4 PM, perfect timing to hit those evening bites. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting your feet wet, this trip's got something for everyone. So grab your favorite lucky hat and let's get after some trophy fish!
We'll start by targeting those famous Susquehanna smallies. These bronze-backed brawlers put up a fight that'll have you grinning from ear to ear. As the sun starts to dip, we'll switch gears and go after some monster cats. Flatheads and channels in this river can grow to ridiculous sizes – we're talking potential for 40+ pounders! You'll get hands-on experience with a variety of fishing techniques, from finesse plastics for smallmouth to chunking big baits for those cats. And don't worry if you're new to this – I'll be right there to show you the ropes and put you on fish.
We'll be using a mix of light tackle and heavier gear, depending on our target. For smallies, expect to throw some finesse plastics, crankbaits, and maybe even topwater if conditions are right. When we switch to catfish, we'll bust out the heavy artillery – stout rods, big hooks, and some serious bait. We'll hit a variety of spots, from rocky shorelines to deep holes where those big cats like to hang out. The Susquehanna's got a bit of everything – riffles, pools, islands – and we'll use that diverse habitat to our advantage. Just remember, river fishing can be a bit different from lakes, so be ready to adapt and learn some new tricks!

Smallmouth Bass: These hard-fighting fish are the crown jewels of the Susquehanna. Known for their acrobatic leaps and bulldog determination, smallies in this river can grow to trophy sizes. We typically see fish in the 2-4 pound range, but 5+ pounders aren't unheard of. They love to hang around rocky structure and current breaks. In the warmer months, topwater action can be explosive – there's nothing quite like seeing a big bronze back crush a buzzbait!
Flathead Catfish: These are the true monsters of the Susquehanna. Flatheads can grow to massive sizes, with fish over 40 pounds possible. They're ambush predators, often hiding in deep holes or around submerged logs. Unlike their channel cat cousins, flatheads strongly prefer live bait. When one of these bruisers takes off, you better hold on tight! The evening hours are prime time for flatheads, which is why our trip is timed perfectly to target them.
Channel Catfish: While maybe not as glamorous as flatheads, channel cats are abundant in the Susquehanna and provide great action. These fish typically range from 2-10 pounds, but bigger ones are certainly possible. They're less picky eaters than flatheads, happily gobbling up cut bait, stinkbaits, and even artificial lures at times. Channel cats tend to be more active than flatheads, so you can expect consistent action once we find a good spot.
Look, I could go on all day about the fish in this river, but nothing beats experiencing it firsthand. This 8-hour trip gives you the perfect mix of action and big fish potential. You'll get to try different techniques, target multiple species, and hopefully land some fish you'll be bragging about for years to come. We've only got room for 3 anglers per trip, so don't wait too long to book. The Susquehanna's calling, and those fish aren't going to catch themselves. Give us a shout, and let's get you out on the water for a day you won't forget!

Flathead Catfish are the big, ugly brutes of the Susquehanna. These olive-colored monsters can grow over 3 feet long and top 100 pounds. They love deep, slow-moving water and hang out near structure like logs or rocks. Flatheads are ambush predators, so they're not picky eaters - if it moves, they'll try to eat it. Live bait is key here; bluegill or perch work great. These cats put up a serious fight, so bring heavy gear. Late spring through fall is prime time, especially at night when they're most active. Locals swear by fishing deep holes just downstream of rapids. The meat is excellent too, with a cleaner taste than other catfish. Just be ready for a workout hauling one in!
Smallmouth Bass are the bread and butter of Susquehanna fishing. These bronze bruisers average 2-3 pounds but can push 5-6 in the right spots. Look for them around rocky areas, fallen trees, and current breaks. They love clear, cool water and get more active as it warms up in late spring. Smallies hit hard and fight like crazy - it's why anglers can't get enough of them. They'll smash topwater lures, but when it's hot, try dragging a tube jig along the bottom. Dawn and dusk are usually best. A local trick is to focus on shade lines during sunny days. The meat's good eating too, with a mild, sweet flavor. Just remember to practice catch-and-release to keep the population thriving for years to come.
